Send me a few notes on your background: name, age, where you`re from, etc....

Michael Beck / Digital Nomad, USA

When did you had the idea to start blogging ?

My background is writing and traditional mass marketing. I have always been intrigued with Internet marketing, and started blogging as a way to learn basic online skills and as a way to test and investigate some online business concepts.

Where did you get your daily blog inspiration from?

I do quite a bit of reading and research…other blogs and websites, social networks and online news items.

What´s the goal of your blog?

I want to learn how to monetize my blogs, but for the moment am concentrating on learning how to build traffic. I also eventually want to have 8-10 websites focused on narrow niche markets.

Is there anything you ever wanted to post but didn´t post for some reason?

In general no, however, I try to stay clear of being too political or too opinionated. I mostly want to just present ideas and then let readers draw their own conclusions.

Are there any topics you wouldn´t write about?

Yes. Religion.

How many blogs do you have currently in your reader?

If you mean subscriptions, actually very few. I have a few friend’s blogs and a few social networks that I receive as feeds. I find that too many feeds create too much confusion and are hard to manage.

The top 3 blogs you read?

At the moment, and I am sure this will change…I read John Chow.com, TheThinkingBlog.com, TechCrunch, CNet. I could go on, but you only asked for "3". I probably watch 12-15 blogs at a time each day.

From which blogger did you learn the most? What?

Currently John Chow and Ilker Yoldas are influences. I try to emulate people that are being successful, based on their marketing ideas and the ability to create traffic. Building traffic and learning to write good content is what I am focused on right now.

Do you use any toolbars? Which ones and why?

I use the Google Toolbar exclusively in combination with Firefox as my browser. Google is the best hands down. I also use Google Apps and am starting to migrate even more to other Open Source and online applications as I have time to test and experiment with them.

How do you generate traffic?

I have joined lots of forums, social networks, and blog directories. I also work with a small group that acts as a think tank to create linking strategies and promote traffic. I have not tried any paid advertising yet. Actually, I would prefer to grow my traffic slowly and be sure that it is very targeted.

What is the reason for visitors to return to your blog and become readers?

I am still developing my niches, but my original idea was to provide reviews and reports that would save people time from having to search for information on the current and future concepts of using technology to work from home or in a portable fashion (Digital Nomads or Technomads).

What do you prefer Mac or Pc?

I started out with Mac many years ago and switched to PC, simply because the majority of people were using PCs. This was back before there was file sharing between the two platoforms. Please Choose a category for you blog. All of my current blogs have the central theme of using emerging technologies to allow you to work for yourself in varying degrees. This ranges form working from home, to the concept of a virtual or portable office, and also from remote or multiple locations (extreme telecommuting).
