Send me a few notes on your background: name, age, where you`re from, etc....
The "blogging" name I go by is KWiz. I chose that name because my first name begins with the letter "K" and being a seeker of "wisdom," I tacked that "Wiz" on the end of the "K." I am 43 years old, married to a wonderful, passionate, brilliant man. I am also a mother of a great little girl who will be three years old in May. I’m originally from the Midwest but moved to the Atlanta area over 15 years ago. I am a Christian, although I don’t like to wear that on my sleeve. It’s like having a bumper sticker on your car identifying you as a Christian, yet you’re speeding 90 miles per hour down the highway, changing lanes faster than you can shake a stick at. I’m just not that good – and I don’t want people judging me on my Christianity. Finally, I’ve been a teacher of biblical studies at a private, college-prep high school in Atlanta for the past seven years and am having a great time at it!
When did you had the idea to start blogging? My husband was talking about blogging a few years ago as he talked about the release of his upcoming book project. At that time, he got a bit sidetracked with another essential project, and I forgot about the whole blogging business. Suddenly, though, back in November ‘06, the idea of blogging re-entered my mind. I remembered what my husband said and began researching it for him (I am a great researcher). As I was gathering information to encourage him to begin his blogging endeavors, I was reminded of the fact that I have a ministry waiting in the wings that had not yet gotten off the ground because it just wasn’t time. Nevertheless, it seemed to now be the time, and it appeared blogging would be a good way for me to begin. As I talked with my husband about it, he encouraged me to go forth while he was completing his project. And I was excited about it. So I went forth, not knowing. And so here I am. (This response comes from a meme I responded to on Feb. 24. 2007 entitled "Tag! I’m It! a.k.a. Why Do I Blog?")
Would you like to share with us the URL of your first post? I’d love to. I originally started blogging on the Blogger "beta" platform, so you can head on over there (I haven’t deleted that blog yet). The title of my first post is "To Be Thankful" (it was around Thanksgiving). The actual URL is
http://wisdomwalking.blogspot.com/2006/11/to-be-thankful.html .
What is your motivation to continue blogging? Blogging is a way for me to see what is inside me. It allows me to be reflective and invite others to be reflective as well. I have discovered that I have a voice – I am a woman who has experienced much pain in her life, yet, I’m growing out of and in spite of that pain. I’m sure other women (and men) have had similar experiences. So my thought was for all of us to impart wisdom to one another so that we all might grow and mature, becoming all that God has called us to be.
Where did you get your daily blog inspiration from? One of my greatest inspirations is my husband. He is an incredibly thoughtful, gifted man who is seeking to make a difference in the world. He is passionate, and he communicates that passion daily. I can’t help but to be inspired by him, because he is also my greatest champion. I am also greatly inspired by my daughter. She is only almost three years old, but she is an "old soul." I learn much about what love is from my daily interactions with her. I also see much within myself that I don’t like as I learn more about her daily, so I’ll talk about some of that in my posts. Furthermore, I am a book hound. I haven’t read as much as I’d like to lately, but a lot of what I write about, while revolving around my relationships with my husband and daughter, can also be based on a book I’m reading. For example, my husband introduced me to Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D. When I picked up the book and browsed it, I discovered that the book was filled with what I needed to really begin and sustain a healing process that I desperately needed. So I’ve been doing a weekly series based on that book. Moreover, I experience much as a teacher in a private, college-prep high school in Atlanta, GA. I started my teaching career there seven years ago and I have learned and grown a lot out of this experience. In fact, I recognize completely that teaching is my calling. So I’ll sometimes write about something related to what happened at my school or something my students say that lends itself well to what I’m generally writing about on my blog. These are four very specific sources of inspiration for the content in my blog. Nevertheless, I do have a few friends and other family members (like my mom who passed away last year) that inspire me as well.
What´s the goal of your blog? I seek to provide wisdom (whether through something I write or through comments my readers so graciously provide) in the areas primarily of relationships, parenting, personal development, and spiritual growth.
Choose one word to describe your blog? This is difficult. How about "Revealing."
What kind of people read your blog and who should read it? How are their reactions? My area of expertise is women (since I am one). However, I have had women and men read my posts and comment. My audience appears to be very broad. I think anyone who is willing to seek change in their lives, to really look deep within themselves, to understand who they are and how they got to that point, to really see that God has placed wonderful gifts within that He would love for them to share with the world – that’s the type of person I think who would benefit from my blog. I’m not saying I have it all together, though. I’m on this journey too. But I make sure I let my readers know that we’re all in this together. I’ve had good reactions to my blog so far. I have had men share words of wisdom and encouragement as well as women. I do hope to receive more comments as time goes on, though. It helps me to see what I could be doing better.
Are there any posts you are excited to offer? I am always excited to write my weekly Women Who Run With The Wolves series of posts. But I also like to post my weekly "Friday Favorites." What I do here is make a note of posts I find during the week that I particularly enjoyed that my readers may not have seen, that might be new to my regular readers. But really, anything I post I’m generally excited about. I try not to post "fluffy" stuff (Sometimes I think I’m not so successful with this). Which of your blog posts had the most reactions from your readers? Ha! Okay, back in January, a story came out about a family that got kicked off an AirTran flight from Florida to Boston. I wrote a post about this entitled "AirTran Kicks Family Off Plane!" This post elicited so many responses, most of them disagreeing with my viewpoint. I also get a good number of comments when I do the weekly Women Who Run With The Wolves post. My most popular post to date, though, is a recent one entitled "Dreams Deferred?" That one really resonated with my readers. I had a lot of fun writing that one.
The top 3 blogs you read? This one is hard because I have so many favorites I read daily through my reader. And the type of blogs I read vary quite a bit.
But here are my tops: #1 - My husband’s blog entitled
When Least Expected™ - this goes without saying. My husband writes stuff that nobody else thinks about. And it really makes you think. It might even make you uncomfortable.
#2 -
Soul to Soul by Madena Burman – Madena and I are kindred spirits. I learn a lot about myself reading her blog.
#3 -
Paula Mooney – Paula is so incredibly passionate about what she writes. She’s funny and insightful and I get a lot out of her blog in a short period of time. In fact, whenever I read her blog I feel like I’m in a time warp sometimes.
Is there anything you want to say at least? Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to share a bit about me and why I’m here. I feel much honor that you asked me to do this, and I am incredibly grateful. I plan to continue blogging for a long time, and I hope this interview allows people to see the excitement and dedication I have in providing my readers something of value.
