merkal2005: Hi David, you are project & development manager, system design, administrative systems manager since 1998. You are also an occasional photographer since 1993. Your job must be taking your serious amount of time. How can find time to take photos and post them in a blog?drakedave: Hi, effectively my work is taking a lot of time, but not as much as my baby son (laughs)! And off course, my son has all priorities.
Time for shooting is not the harder thing to find, as long as you always take your camera with you wherever you go: at work, when you go out, when you party and off course when you are in holidays or making a trip.
Time for posting is a different story. I'm really trying to put good quality photographs on my blog. That means, long time for choosing the right image and to post-processed, if needed. So that's why I'm not able to post everyday.
merkal2005: When did you discover blogging? How popular is your job?drakedave: I wanted to get better at photography, so off course I was looking for example on the web, and that's how I discovered blogging.
You know even professional photographers often have a photoblog of their own hidden somewhere. And for me it is so thrilling to be able to follow the work of somebody day after day, this way you can discover more of the human being hidden behind these images. I like this idea and this is the way I'm trying to share my pictures.
My job is somehow popular and I know a lot of people doing these kind of stuff in computer science. Hopefully I really it and for now I'm enjoying what I'm doing, because I know that living from photography is not the easiest way.
merkal2005: It seems as if you communicate with others through your photos. Is this the reason why you let people comment on every photo you published in your blog?drakedave: Exactly, as I said I like the idea to share with other and to let them discover more about you through the photographs. I specially like my pictures to be commented and that was also one of my first aim in blogging.
As you know, I'm no professional photographer, so every comment every bit of advice, specially if it is not good, will help me to progress.
I think that if I can get a bit better everyday it is because people shares their ideas with me about my pictures.
merkal2005: Do you have any future plans on blogging? drakedave: I have a lot of ideas about blogging, but it is a secret for now. So I won't reveal anything....
merkal2005: What are your suggestions to new photo bloggers? drakedave: In one word: believe.
Believe in what you are doing, there will be always people who are interested in what you share. Inspire yourself of what the other are doing on the net, it is no copying it is just learning.
Don't forget to advertise your blog, there are many catalogs where you can sign in. And be patient readers will come, it can take one full year before having a bunch of readers that are regularly following your work.
