Kiltak - Geeks are Sexy

Kiltak: I started to blog back in June 2005 using the MSN spaces blogging platform. Back then, my blog was not really about technology, and its sole purpose was to keep people I know updated with what was happening in my life. The following November, I started the Original [Geeks Are Sexy] Technology News blog on blogspot, and then, moved it to wordpress on its own domain in January 2007.

Halil: Would you like to share with us the URL of your first post?

Kiltak: My first blog post was in french, so I won't link it here, but I'll point you to the first post I wrote for [GAS] 2.0. First post here

Halil: Why do you blog?

Kiltak: Friends, networking, verification of information, recognition? The main reason I started blogging on [GAS] was to put down what was happening in the daily life of a System Administrator and share tech tips and resources with fellow IT people. I also like to blog for recognition. Because of [GAS], I've participated in an article on Infoworld, been linked by a lot of popular websites (Digg, Reddit, LifeHacker, Reuters, Gizmodo, etc.), newspapers and even a television show on G4TV.


Halil: What´s your inspiration source?

Kiltak: Daily life, friends, worldwide web... My primary inspiration source is my job, and then, the web. The daily content that gets published on [GAS] comes from the web, and our articles and reviews are mostly based on my professional experience.

Halil: What purpose/intent do you want to achieve with your blog?

Kiltak: Earn enough out of it to allow my wife to stay home and raise our kids. Earning a living out of blogging takes time and persistence, but after a while, it is possible.

Halil: Choose one sentence to describe your blog?

Kiltak: Technology, science, news and social issues for geeks, by geeks.

Halil: What do you like most on blogging?

Kiltak: Communication, participation on different projects... Blogging is one of the most rewarding activity that one can do on the web. It helps you become a better writer, expands your knowledge on many subjects and gets you to meet some very interesting people.

Halil: How much time do you spend on blogging?

Kiltak: About 2 hours per day, more or less.

Kiltak: 1. Chip's Quips , 2. Life Hacker and 3. John Chow Dot Com

 
Halil: How do you generate traffic?

Kiltak: For small posts, I do nothing. But when me or one of my contributor write a interesting editorial, tutorial or review, I submit it to the most popular social networking websites and send a news communique promoting the article to blog owners that publish material in the same niche of content as I. When your site grows big enough, doing these things becomes optional. Your readers will take care of it.

Halil: What is the reason for visitors to return to your blog and become readers?

Kiltak: [GAS] is updated daily, features 5 different contributors, is enjoyed by over 2000 feed subscribers and 1000's of front page readers. We try to keep our readership updated with the most current news from the world of Information technology and also, we keep them entertained with occasional humorous posts. We've been there for a while and are there to stay. Give us a try, you won't regret it!
