JPereiraRead story of The University Kid Jason Pereira and learn how to make money online

merkal2005: Hi Jason, your exams are fast approaching. How is your blogging going?

JPereira: Hey Mert, thanks for the interview.

Blogging is actually going pretty well - I'm meeting more and more interesting people every day and most metrics of the site continue to increase. I did have a semi-large hiccup when Hostican killed my blog for ten days, however it is recovering well from that I think and TUK will be back in the big time soon enough :)

merkal2005: When did you discover blogging?

JPereira: I discovered blogging.. probably around September last year, although I didn't really get into promotion and stuff till early January. A few friends decided that we'd enter into a friendly competition to see who could make $15,000 by May of this year and we all decided to document our progress. They've since fallen off, but TUK still exists and continues to thrive.

merkal2005: How did you name your blog? What will happen when you graduate? Will you change it's name or build another blog?

JPereira: I named my blog - sadly, my name (jasonpereira.com) was taken so I had to search for another. I did want to play on the university aspect, and adding "kid" to the domain makes it fairly brandable - the kid is mainly because I'm one of the most immature people you'll ever meet, but don't tell anyone that though (oops! :P).

As for when I graduate, I hope that the blog will be long gone by then - I have said that I will sell as soon as it is worth five figures, and I think my readers understand that as such an amount would be hard to turn down. It is nowhere near that at the moment, however it is getting there - I turned down a $6,000 offer a month or so ago and revenue and traffic is only continuing to grow since then.

I would build another blog after I finished, however probably in a different field - more of a personal blog and to inform people when I start new projects. Will try to nick my name off its present owner before then :)

merkal2005: How do you make money online? What are your suggestions to newcomers?

JPereira: I make money online in a variety of ways, so many that I cannot explain them all here. Primarily, I make a decent amount as a freelance writer, both for others and my own products; I have also dabbled in website flipping (which has gone relatively well - my largest website took around twenty minutes to put up and sold for $1,550) as well as affiliate marketing.

Recently I have gotten into providing websites to local businesses and then outsourcing the work; with this I made $2,000 last week with not a lot of work. As for my suggestions to newcomers, I'd say start small and make sure that you get a friend that knows what s/he is doing as there are a lot of scams when you start out and being naive you may fall for some of them (I did). Last but not least, I'd like to plug a forum of mine, which is at BlogPremiere/Forum - it is a great place for newbies and slightly more advanced users to find help as it is a growing, helpful community :)

merkal2005: Please tell us about your future blogging plans.

JPereira: My future blogging plans aren't that unique, to be honest - grow TUK (I will be doing a little bit of that over the next few months), promote Blog Premiere (recently got tshirts made) as well as try and increase my revenue sources. I want to have a collection of niche blogs that bring in revenue like clockwork, and I will be working on making that happen when my exams are over. :)

Thanks for the interview, good luck with your Bloghology project :)
