Send me a few notes on your background: name, age, where you`re from, etc....

I’m a freelance New Media Consultant who also writes for Quit Your Day Job, Crypt Hunter, ComicsPedia, Dr. Fong's House of Mysteries and Blog About Your Blog. I’m a huge popular culture freak, loves comic books, science fiction, soundtracks. I'm married with two dogs, two goldfish and an Alexandrian parrot and unfortunately I’ll be 30 by the end of April.

When did you start blogging?

About 10 months myself and Pop Culture Heroines has been going for just under 4 months now.

Would you like to share your first post with us ?

The first post for Pop Culture Heroines was about Ripley in Alien - http://popcultureheroines.com/2007/01/ripley-and-the-role-of-protector-in-aliens/

Where did you get your daily inspiration to blog from?

LOL the wonderful women around me that are so strong and so wonderful! What originally inspired me was someone on eBay was selling their action figurines and they happened to be all powerful female characters. It got me thinking that these characters are often overlooked or dismissed and I wanted to build a website that promoted these characters and discussions about them. Of course at the time I didn’t even think about a blog so the idea sat on the shelf for quite a while until one night it struck me and I built the blog up. Some days it’s harder than others because I’m writing more in depth posts than I would on one of my other blogs.

What´s the goal of your blog?

To promote strong female characters in popular culture and have open discussions about them. To give especially young women somewhere to see female characters in strong roles. I suppose it’s probably just as important for young men to see these characters too and learn that women aren’t just objects.

Are there any posts you are excited to offer?

Wow. There are some really good ones on there by some very talented writers. Of my own posts I’m quite happy with the one I did about The Invisible Woman - http://popcultureheroines.com/2007/02/why-is-it-that-the-invisible-woman-is-good/ .
Some of the ones that I love from the other authors are:
http://popcultureheroines.com/2007/02/the-devil-wears-prada/
http://popcultureheroines.com/2007/02/the-forgotten-heroes-why-tara-matters/
http://popcultureheroines.com/2007/02/keystone-mother-of-the-oc-kirsten-cohen/
http://popcultureheroines.com/2007/02/emma-peel-epitome-of-style-and-strength/
Ok I’ll stop now!

Your most commented post? URL?

It’s actually our latest post which is discussing Thelma and Louise (well it may not be the latest by the time this is published)
- http://popcultureheroines.com/2007/04/thelma-and-louise/ How much time do you spend on blogging? I’m a new media consultant who specializes in blogs so you could say a lot of time is spent blogging, reading blogs etc (I mean a LOT of time LOL)

The top 3 blogs you read?

That’s really really hard! As I say I read a lot of blogs all the time. So the three I’m going to choose are three of the founding members of the community of bloggers that I am a member of. Early on we would all visit each others blogs all the time and leave lots of comments and chat. We don’t get the same opportunities to do that as people get busy or change what they are writing (in fact this makes me want to write a post about this LOL) so the sites are:
1. Serenity Quest - http://tishabest.blogspot.com/ 2. Life Can Come At you Fast - http://www.navilyn.com/blog/ and 3. Worth it All - http://worth-it-all.blogspot.com/

From which blogger did you learn the most? What?

I think I learnt the most from a news agency blog that I continue to read today, http://www.towersystems.com.au/fhn_blog/ the reason why is it taught me that no matter what the industry anyone can use a blog and get readers!

How do you generate traffic?

For Pop Culture Heroines it’s been all word of mouth and mybloglog – whenever we feature a story on a character I may send an email out to any fan groups letting them know that we’re talking about their favorite character.

What tools do you use for statistics? And how do they help you improve your blog?

I use awestats which is a program that comes with cpanel web hosting – it shows me our keywords and where our sites getting linked from. It’s also good because it lets me know the most popular posts which is important because all too frequently I’ve found just because it has no comments it doesn’t mean it’s not popular which is the case for our OC Kristen post which I think has been really popular but very few comments.

Is there anything you want to say at least?

I want to mention all my authors who contribute to Pop Culture Heroines - Tracey, Becca, Julia and Matthew who all are fantastic writers. I also want to say that we are always open for submissions so if you’ve got a favorite female character why not write about her and send it on through!
